Clara Laratta

Clara Laratta is a visual artist based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She received her BFA (Honours) from McMaster University where she graduated with distinction, specializing in painting, printmaking and photography. Laratta's work explores identity through a lens of how our interactions and subsequent emotions influence the way we see and interact with the world. Her research culminates with abstracted re-presentations of objects intertwined with these identified and reconciled emotions.

Laratta has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Canada in the United States, India and Italy. She participated in a number of residencies including Biophony, Chelsea, QC, Awakening at Artscape Gibraltar Point, Toronto, ON and DVSA Dundas, ON. Clara is the recipient of the The Canadian Council for the Arts Create and Explore Grant, the Ontario Arts Council’s Exhibition Assistance Award, Fieldcote Museum’s Juror’s Choice Award, McMaster Museum of Art’s People's Choice Award, McMaster University’s Lorna & David Somers Community Contribution Award for the Arts, a BMO 1st Art! nominee and an invited member of the OSA.
